Full-time High School History Teacher
Starting Fall 2025
Classification: Full Time, Exempt, Faculty
Reporting to: Assistant Head for Teaching and Learning
Urban School of San Francisco seeks an energetic history teacher to teach 9th grade world history, 10th/11th grade American History and electives such as Civics, Birth of Modern China, Asian-American History, or other courses based on expertise and experience.
The school is looking for a dynamic, creative teacher who has enthusiasm for working with high school students, a commitment to innovative pedagogy and collaboration with colleagues, a commitment to equity pedagogy, and to their own continued professional growth. Ideal candidates should have a bachelor's or master's degree in History, curriculum development experience and at least two years experience teaching history or social studies at the secondary level.
At Urban, we want and expect our students to be active historians. Our History Department is committed to helping students develop intellectual curiosity and critical engagement by understanding the complexities of the past and its implications for our present and future. Our program encourages students to approach historical inquiry with rigor and nuance, equipping them with the analytical tools to evaluate diverse sources and perspectives. Students learn to craft well-reasoned historical arguments through close reading of primary and secondary texts in a collaborative learning environment that prioritizes thoughtful discussion, active listening, and evidence-based interpretation.
A full time teacher at Urban is also expected to be an advisor for a group of 10-12 students, serving as their advocate, mentor and academic advisor, and accompanying them on class trips.

Salary and Benefits
The anticipated salary range the School reasonably expects to pay candidates for the position of full-time faculty member in San Francisco is $93,750 to $158,250 annually.
This position includes the opportunity to participate extensively in Urban's teaching community, to collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development and pedagogy, and to benefit from Urban's professional development program. Additionally, Urban provides all full-time and part-time employees teaching 4 or more classes or working more than 20 hours per week a generous benefits package including employer-paid medical and dental coverage.
