Job Title: Director of Training and Development

Position Summary:

Virginia Transformer Corp. is seeking a dynamic and strategic Director of Training and Development to lead the design, execution, and continuous improvement of enterprise-wide learning and development initiatives. This leadership role will shape our organizational capability by driving a culture of continuous learning, employee development, compliance, and performance excellence. The Director will partner closely with executive leadership to align training programs with business goals and workforce planning strategies.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Alignment

  • Define and execute the company’s training and development strategy in alignment with organizational objectives and long-term growth plans
  • Serve as the executive sponsor for all corporate training programs, driving strategic initiatives across multiple plant and office locations
  • Partner with senior leaders to assess training needs, support succession planning, and drive capability building at all levels

Program Development & Oversight

  • Lead the development of comprehensive training programs across technical, compliance, safety, leadership, and functional skill areas
  • Build frameworks for onboarding, cross-training, and career progression to support talent development and retention
  • Ensure all learning programs meet regulatory and industry standards

Delivery & Execution

  • Oversee all aspects of training delivery including in-person, virtual, and hybrid models
  • Leverage internal facilitators and external vendors to scale and enhance training programs
  • Implement and manage the Learning Management System (LMS) and integrate emerging technologies for digital learning

Compliance & Safety Training

  • Collaborate with HR and EHS leaders to implement and maintain required compliance, regulatory, and safety training programs
  • Maintain audit-ready documentation and ensure completion tracking across all locations

Measurement & Reporting

  • Establish and monitor KPIs to measure program effectiveness, employee engagement, and learning ROI
  • Provide regular updates and strategic insights to the executive team on training impact and workforce capability

Team Development & Budget Management

  • Lead and grow a high-performing training team; coach and mentor staff to build internal instructional design and facilitation capabilities
  • Manage departmental budgets, vendors, and resource allocation to maximize efficiency and impact

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Education, or related field (Master’s degree preferred)
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in training and development, with 5+ years in a leadership or director-level role
  • Strong understanding of adult learning theory, instructional design, and training program measurement
  • Proven ability to align training initiatives with business strategy in a manufacturing, engineering, or industrial environment
  • Demonstrated leadership of cross-functional initiatives and experience influencing executive stakeholders
  • Proficiency in LMS platforms and training delivery tools
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and project management skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading training in a multi-site industrial or manufacturing organization
  • CPTD, SHRM-SCP, or other relevant certification
  • Familiarity with ISO, OSHA, and other industry-specific training compliance requirements
