Job Description

Community Data Innovation Strategist

Location: Mississippi (Statewide; based in Central Mississippi with travel across SR1 sites)

Department: Educational Technology - Data, Innovation, and Impact

Reports To: Chief Operations Officer - Director of Strategic Initiatives

Position Summary

SR1 is seeking a Community Data Innovation Strategist to lead the next wave of data-driven transformation in education, agriculture, health equity, and community development across Mississippi. This is not a typical analyst role—we’re looking for a cutting-edge thinker, builder, and doer who is passionate about equity, thrives on innovation, and uses data to tell stories, drive decisions, and shape the future.

This individual will be embedded in SR1's C.O.O.L. Zones™, SR1 College Preparatory and STEM Academy (CPSA), and agricultural initiatives, translating raw data into meaningful insights that accelerate opportunity and impact for all communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and Deploy Innovative Data Tools: Build interactive dashboards, predictive models, and data visualizations using state-of-the-art tools (e.g., Python, R, Power BI, Tableau, Looker Studio).
  • Lead SR1’s Data Ecosystem: Architect SR1’s data collection, management, and reporting pipelines across education, agriculture, and community programs.
  • Generate Actionable Insights: Analyze quantitative and qualitative data to inform decisions in academic outcomes, health equity, workforce development, AgTech, and more.
  • Train and Empower Teams: Develop internal capacity through workshops and trainings so staff and stakeholders can engage meaningfully with data.
  • Champion Equity-First Data Practices: Apply global thinking lens to all data projects; develop frameworks to track outcomes for historically marginalized populations.
  • Be a Self-Starter and Thought Leader: Propose new methods, spot patterns early, explore cutting-edge research, and keep SR1 ahead of the curve in the data-for-good space.

Qualifications

Required Skills & Experience

  • 3–5+ years in data analytics, data science, impact evaluation, or similar fields.
  • Expert in at least one programming/statistical language (e.g., Python, R, SQL).
  • Highly proficient with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent).
  • Strong grasp of cloud data platforms (e.g., BigQuery, AWS, Snowflake, etc.).
  • Experience with data storytelling, impact evaluation, and community-based metrics.
  • Demonstrated success working independently and taking projects from idea to implementation.
  • Passionate about education equity, community transformation, and/or agricultural sustainability.

Preferred (but not required)

  • Experience in education (K-12), public health, agriculture, or nonprofit sectors.
  • Familiarity with GIS mapping tools (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS).
  • Understanding of machine learning, predictive analytics, or natural language processing (NLP).
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish or another language relevant to SR1’s communities.

What We Offer

  • A mission-driven environment with high autonomy and opportunity to lead
  • Direct impact on underserved communities and K–12 learners in Mississippi
  • Collaboration with dynamic teams across agriculture, education, tech, and health
  • Access to top-tier tools and support for continued professional development
  • Opportunities to present work at national conferences or publications
  • Competitive salary and benefits
