Chief Diversity Officer-HEO (Revised)

POSITION DETAILS

Reporting directly to the President, the Chief Diversity Officer (CDO) at Kingsborough Community College serves as the college's Title IX Coordinator, as a member of the Workplace Violence Advisory Team, and as a member of the Assessment and Care Team (ACT). In the college's process of recruitment for new personnel, the CDO is responsible for certifying that all search committees meet diversity requirements and that they are appropriately informed of all City University of New York (CUNY) search procedures and policies. In coordination with the college's Office of Student Affairs, the CDO, as Title IX Coordinator, develops and presents educational programs to students related to sexual misconduct on campus. In coordination with the college's Office of Human Resources and Office of Academic Affairs, the CDO develops and presents professional development programs and trainings to faculty and staff related to diversity, equity and inclusion, affirmative action, equal employment, workplace violence, and Title IX compliance issues. The CDO serves as the college's liaison to the City University of New York (CUNY) Office of Diversity and is responsible for the preparation and submission of periodic plans and reports to the University. The CDO represents the college at meetings of CUNY's Chief Diversity Officer Council.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage the implementation of the City University of New York's Affirmative Action Policy and is responsible for the Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity Management, as well as the creation of diversity and compliance programs, training, and initiatives designed to foster a climate that encourages respect for diversity, equity and inclusion; Oversee search committees in the implementation of Affirmative Action program regulations, directs search committees regarding recruitment efforts for a diverse faculty and staff, interprets information on under-utilization for relevant constituencies, reviews recruitment documentation, and monitors employee recruitment and selection to ensure compliance with EEO/AAP policies and plan; Monitor the recruitment, appointment and retention processes for all faculty and staff positions in accordance with University Bylaws and federal and state laws pertaining to equal employment opportunity and affirmative action; Investigate discrimination complaints (including race, ethnicity, and gender) and ensures the College is in compliance with all laws, rules and regulations including but not limited to Title VII, ADA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, Title IV, and Title IX; Establish and lead the College’s DEI Council to advance and enhance the recruitment, retention and advancement of students, faculty and staff from historically underrepresented groups; Collaborate with relevant school and university entities in responding to incidents and challenges related to bias, discrimination and harassment, and in identifying appropriate interventions and follow-up. Identify and provide appropriate and culturally and structurally sensitive support to students or employees experiencing bias and discrimination.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and eight years' relevant experience required. Preferred Qualifications: JD degree with experience in the field of employment law. Experience conducting investigations and a record of success in EEO/AA and diversity arenas. Demonstrable familiarity with regulatory laws and requirements. Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and oral and written communication skills. Computer skills in MS Word and Excel. Prior experience in working in a college or university setting.

Develops effective strategies to promote diversity in faculty and staff hiring and actively participates in building strong networks and recruitment sources; Serves as a key recruiting team member, coordinating recruitment plans, advertising, and selection processes; Implements the College's Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity policies and ensures compliance with relevant city, state, and federal statutes such as Title VII, Title IX, Section 504, and the Americans with Disabilities Act, responding to and conducting investigations of non-compliance complaints; Collects and analyzes data for College and University reports; Develops and presents training programs and disseminates information related to Diversity, EEO, and other compliance at the College; Coordinates with University offices to assure consistency of University-wide policies; Maintains current knowledge and materials related to laws, rules, regulations, and best practices for advancing EEO/Diversity; Performs related duties as assigned. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

  • $124,656 - $141,858
  • This salary range has increased to $132,248 -$150,497, and will further increase to $136,546 - $155,388 effective September 1, 2025, and will be paid retroactively at a future date when the contractual increases are implemented.
